Real estate development, whether a rehabilitation of a home or a complex Public Private Partnership, requires public sector involvement. This series explores the relationship between developers and public sector managers, the role the public sector plays in promoting equitable development, and how the public sector can attract and successfully collaborate with developers. A Letter of Completion will be provided to participants who complete the course.
This course was developed in collaboration with Howard Ways III, AICP, Associate Professor and Program Director of the Masters in Real Estate Development at Thomas Jefferson University.
A series of speakers with your moderator, Professor Ways, will address the following key questions:
Week 1 - Equitable Development
What makes development equitable?
Who is responsible for equitable development?
How can the public sector help facilitate equitable development?
By invitation of Howard Ways III, I spoke at the Urban Land Institute Learning course on Building Resilient Communities through Stronger Partnerships with the session on The Role of the Public Sector in Real Estate Development. My remarks unpacked my experiences with Equitable Development through creative placemaking and suggestions on how to do design justice with Black artistic communities. I joined Maritza Pechin, AICP, who shared her perspectives.
