I invented the Hidden Histories Tour as an abbreviation of a larger project that seeks to narrate some of Penn’s most iconic symbols but offer their hidden histories from a design justice perspective: architecture, urban policy, and urban landscape design. Three types of monuments and memories this organizes:
- Countericons of dignity – narrating Penn in color beyond some of white and male figures.
- Displacemaking – symbols of urban renewal by University to make campus planning happen
- Othered diasporas – hidden populations in the shadows of these efforts.
This was debuted at the Weitzman School of Design New Student Orientation and attracted over 90 students in a span of 2 hours.
